I have heard horror stories from kids that have attended parochial schools though out my life and the common thread of the worst atonements that was dished out for the least transgressions were that of humiliation that the kids didn’t either understand at the moment or even months after the fact. One common thread they shared was brutal humiliation that lasted entire life times.
There’s the ever popular rap across the knuckles with the ruler, withholding of meals, early wake up calls, public beatings, cold baths followed with humiliating comments toward one’s privates, slippering where by a child’s bare asses spanked in front of the class with the child’s own shoes leaving painful red welts that the child is remembered of the insadent every time he sits in those hard wood school desk chairs they must sit in for the next two days. No fidgeting, or the punishment gets worse.
One of the most evil and embarrassing incidents I heard of was boys were not able to place their hand in their front pants pockets – because you must have been publically masturbating. The price for this transgression – you have to wear mittens to every class and recess for three days straight. Thats’ got to do some work on a kid. I met a guy that had to endure this humiliating circumstance – my Father.
What a shame.
